Thinkblot vs StaffPad

Pick StaffPad if you compose seriously. It turns handwritten notation into an engraved score, plays it back with 55+ instruments, records audio onto the score, and imports and exports MusicXML and MIDI. It's a one-time $49.99 on iPad, and at composing it goes far deeper than Thinkblot.

Pick Thinkblot if you want to sketch music by hand in a notebook you already carry. Its Songbook reads staff paper on the device, plays it back, fits a cue to a length, and sends the page to Dorico, Sibelius or MuseScore as MusicXML, or to Logic as MIDI or audio. Your ink stays as you wrote it.

Nothing is converted, so there's no bar stuck waiting to be recognised. Your notes stay as you wrote them, and Show what's read marks anything Thinkblot couldn't make out, so you can rewrite it or carry on.

Low-star reviews are a slice of any app's users, not a verdict. StaffPad also has many happy ones.
